This article provides an overview of the process used in creating a hardscape brick paver patio. The basic supplies needed include the selected pavers, crushed stone, paver base, long 1 inch conduit pipes, leveling board, and edge restraints. Tools needed include a compactor, cutoff saw, shovels, etc. We explain the basic steps, giving some basic knowledge that is useful if selecting a contractor to do the "heavy lifting," so you'll know what questions to ask. The discussion is based on Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) standards that should be used by any dependable contractor.
The idea is to have a functional space that's also versatile, and that might mean dynamically breaking up your patio space into different areas - e.g., a grilling area, a bar area, and a lounge area.
If the space is small, and all you intend is a grill and a place to eat, you're practically done. If you can only do the basics now, but have intentions of bigger and better add-ons in the future, plan for them now. Make the backyard patio design large enough to include the desired features when you can afford them.
Many people dream of living in a home with a patio, lawn and garden. However, it is not easy because where because of the hefty taxes that you would have to play. Yet it is precisely for this reason that owners of such landed property are envied. So if you do own a home with a patio, lawn and garden you are probably in the upper echelons of society, probably business people or very highly educated in corporate positions or high political office. But it takes more than a dream to own such homes. It takes guts to go out and earn the big bucks to own such property.
