We are rolling into summer and the temperature is rising. November is a very pleasant month in Brisbane, with daily temperatures in the mid-20s and the nights not too hot and sticky. It is around this time that many Aussies start looking at their patios with a view to planning some outdoor parties.
An awning can be either fixed or retractable. A fixed awning, as its name suggests, stays in the same position all the time. It is usually some type of shade cloth fixed to a permanent frame of steel or aluminium. Retractable awnings can be swiftly stowed away, and are available in either powered or manually operated versions. In climates where permanent awnings must be dismantled at the approach of winter and erected again in spring, retractable awnings, which can be left in their cassette all year round, are especially useful.
You may find some patio heaters are just clunky - they look like aluminum foil over coat hanger wire - but if you shop around, you'll find useful and attractive patio heaters in every price range. Prices can range from less than 120 for small portable units to permanently installed natural gas units closer to the 300 range. Look for heater bases with wheels inside and poles with tables attached; you'll use both more than you might think.
