In Her Own Little Ways

nanay and grace

Grace is Papsie’s niece, daughter of her elder sister. Just recently, her father was brought to the hospital because of a difficulty in breathing. He was diagnosed having a heart ailment.

Papsie, being ever present during situations like these, was the one who had offered generously his time and service to bring them to the hospital when they took turns tending their father who was later confined. We did not hear him complain though it required him to go back and forth. This was an effort for him because with his condition, he gets tired easily.
Such attribute really made me adore my husband. With the much indifference he experienced with his kith and kin, he would not take those against them. He would be ever ready to help at all times, to do his small part as brother, or friend, or son, or wife, or father.
Perhaps Grace saw it – the thoughtfulness and the graciousness of his mother’s brother. It did not end by her saying ‘thank you’ and bringing three Jollibee pies. She gave Papsie a short letter last October 14, 2005.
Dearest Tito Dan,
I just want you to know that I truly appreciate your help during those times na nasa hospital si Papa and this is my little way of saying thank you, sana di ka magsawa ^__^ Thank you very much!!!
Grace
Coming home from work that day, he showed me right away the letter. I was also touched by the letter then cooed, “Naks, touched ka, ‘no?” approaching him by the sink. He cannot look at me because he was teary-eyed already. No other words but with a broken voice, he uttered, “Oo…
Pondering, I now realized why Grace is special to my mother-in-law. She is a person who readily reciprocates love and care. In her own little ways, she takes time to say a heartfelt thank you. Maybe for others it would be hypocrisy or pretense, but for us, especially for me, the joy that letter gave Papsie is more than a way of showing gratitude.
Keep it up, Mary Grace! You made a difference.

  1. yes, i have noticed that there really are some people who seem to find it difficult to say thank you, yung totoong thank you. after giving them something, material or service, parang wala na, parang ikaw pa ang may utang na loob. yun bang dadaan-daanan ka lang na parang wala kang ginawa para sa kanila. if you mention your sentiment, ikaw pa ang masama at baka sumbatan ka pa kung bakit binabanggit pa ang naitulong.

    God bless you, too, Jayred!

  2. These days, saying “thank you” has become a novelty. I can well understand why your husband was touched by his niece’s heart-felt gratitude. Positive words do make a difference.

    God bless, Bing!

  3. it really is, rolly, more than a million words… mababa ang loob ni Papsie sa ganyan, e, yung maramdamang pinahahalagahan siya.

maybe some people are just too full of pride to say those words truthfully at hindi out of obligation lang.

    salamat sa pagdalaw!

  4. hi, DOPS…

mabait na bata talaga si Grace. communicative pa. she always tries to converse with people around kahit hindi kayo madalas nagkikita at nagkakausap. she probably knows the definition of humility and gratefulness.

one thing, too, she expresses her views honestly. maybe minsan parang frank but it is better to hear her views than be silent and grumble within.

  5. “Thank you” that is really coming from the heart is more than a million words spoken daily.

It’s the real heart to heart talk.

  8. thanks, evi! hope she will notice that i appreciate her good gestures.

how are you na? sana’y ok ang lahat sa inyo.

  9. i agree with you, Nico. sometimes actions speak louder than words. if we can discern gratefulness, we can also discern ungratefulness. Grace made a difference.

he is always like that. been telling him nga na dapat ang name niya ay Generoso dahil very generous and unselfish. selfless siya when giving service. that is why it pains me to see and hear that some people do not realize that, will even find fault in him.

  12. grace is lucky as well to have someone like you who recognizes her good deeds and appreciates her for the kind of person she is.

  13. Even if one doesn’t utter a word, “thank you” can still be said through a squeeze of the hand, a gentle nod, a smile, etc. You’d know gratitude when given. But to write a short letter to express it is going an extra mile. The “thank you” there must only be sincere. I’d be moved myself if I received such note.

BTW, that’s so unselfish of your husband to extend assistance. He’ll be blest a thousandfold. I believe in ‘karma’.

  21. yes, blue, this world would be a beautiful place to live in kung maraming tao ang marunong umunuwa, magpatawad, magpakumbaba at marunong tumanaw ng utang na loob.

sad that they are becoming rare as time passes by…

thank you for the kind words. i hope i could really inspire people with my entries…

  35. It is always during trying times when you can separate the boys from the men. Your husband is a very cnscientious brother.

    35
  36. Very heartwarming post. Bihira na ang tumutulong na walang hinihintay na kapalit (papsie), at yung tinulungan na naka-appreciate. Nice di ba???

    36
  37. yes, rolly, i agree. yung mga immature na lalaki, mga boys pa rin, no?

he is a reliable person indeed.

    37
  38. hi, rhada!

bihira na talaga. sabi nga ni kaibigang bel, it is as if me obligasyon tayo minsan sa mga nangangailangan ng tulong at pag natulungan na, parang wala na.

    38
  39. hi, elizabeth. walang problema kay papsie ang tumulong. minsan nga kahit kawalan na ng utang ng loob ang reciprocation, tutulong at tutulong pa rin ‘yan lalo na sa kadugo niya. he is not only a good husband and relative, he is also a good friend. bibihira ang hindi makagusto sa kanya, probably those who doesnt appreciate him or who cant relate to his wit and humor. this is not saying he is a perfect person pero generally, he is a good person.

    God bless you both!

  44. madame, you are certainly lucky to have a husband such as he.

sadly, “thank you” are two words often taken for granted by people; how wonderful it’d be if everyone just appreciates the power of those two words. :)

    44
  45. hi, corsi! i am blessed having him as my husband.

true, only two words but seem to be weighty to be extracted from the pharynx.
